Ivonne Cornejo Ortiz

LOPC Coordinator Ivonne Cornejo Ortiz is responsible for administering our Legal Orientation Program for Custodians of unaccompanied children. Ms. Cornejo is a graduate of Rhodes College, where she studied International Relations and Latin American Studies and was a member of the Theta Chapter of Sigma Iota Rho National International Studies Honor Society and The Alpha Phi Epsilon Chapter of the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society. She hopes to attend University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law in order to one day practice immigration law. Her areas of interest include gender-based asylum claims and female empowerment/advocacy programs.

At MIA, Ms. Cornejo knows that she makes a difference in clients’ lives. “I get to build relationships with our clients and be a part of their story. I’ve also been learning so much about immigration law, and I know I will apply everything I’m learning now in the future when I become an attorney. MIA is a wonderful place to me.”
